Delusional Bliss

Ashley sat and drew away,
Empty thoughts consume her day,
Memories of family now destroyed,
Defense mechanisms she now employs.

Drawing figures with big smiles,
As old used crayons form abandoned piles,
She draws castles and pretty princesses,
These vivid images make up for realities differences.

She cries softly but no one hears,
It’s been that way for several years,
Since her life ended inside
Her hopefulness has been denied.

Now she sits and tries to daydream,
Of enchanted lands with silver streams,
Of majestic castles with prince charmings,
But unfortunately her reality is much more alarming.
