The Difference Between House and Home

House and home are not the same,
One’s your comfort; the other’s just a place.
One’s your space; the other’s just a building.
One’s a refuge; the other’s no different from the rest.

When moving to and fro constantly,
Homes become houses slowly,
They lose their value in your soul,
And become a part of the landscape.

A place you once knew, but have forgotten,
A world in which you grew, for a short time,
If you move many times you know what I mean,
Houses lose their value in many subtle ways,
They become a building, not a place you call your own.

And it’s hard to be happy when you can’t call your house a home
