One Girl and the Moment of a Lifetime

Pulling her coat tighter
Around her slim body.
She hurries down the crumbled path.
Halfway home.
She lets out a deep sigh.
A cloud of thick frost seeps through her lips.
She begins to increase her pace and
Suddenly a crack resonates through the night.
She freezes.
She always walks alone,
She never let's it bother her.
Until now.
This time it's different.
Slowly she turns toward the noise.
Darkness.
That's all she perceives.
Chuckling to herself she shrugs
And continues on her way.
She doesn't even complete a stride,
Before she hears another resonance.
She flings her body around with a shrill
"Who's there?!"
Still glancing around
with her breath quick and shallow,
She saw it.
Two glowing yellow eyes.
She stumbles on a stone
But she catches herself.
She looks back up
And her blood turns to ice
The two orbs have drifted closer..
Her heart is a frantic drum beat.
Then it creeps into the moon light.
Gazing into it's pallid eyes
Her breath catches in her throat.
Feeling reality slipping away from her,
She falls to her knees.
Then to her hands.
Bursts of color explode beneath her eyelids.
Collapsing on the dusty ground,
Her consciousness slips away.
Now she floats,
Into the deep world of unconsciousness.
