You Ran Away

There is a lot more to what we see
So much we could never understand
And tragedies are always occurring
For which the outcomes are not what we planned
Every day is a struggle
When you face the world alone
But where else have you got to go
When you ran away from home
When you couldn’t take the pain
You decided to leave it all behind
Knowing you can never go back
Because life was too unkind
When all you’ve ever known
Is drugs, drink, and the fight
When it was a good day
If you weren’t beaten that night
When going back home
Would only make it worse
Your parents lying to the world
With the bullshit they rehearsed
“we just want our little girl home
We love her through and through”
When you’re a missing person
What else can you do
Eventually they’ll stop looking
And everyone will forget
you’ll be safer on the streets
Cold, starving and wet
