In Every Moment

I will wait for summer and the radiating waves
to cover my skin
baking me like a cake
a golden brown, a perfect tan.

I will develop a better exercise routine
because I want to live a long
fulfilling life
and I want to be seen as a
strong and graceful individual.

I will re-read my favorite books
because I miss the characters and the
adventures they took me on.
Chronicles of Narnia, Princess Diaries, The Clique -
taking me back to the past, to
my childhood.
A life carefree.

I will spend my time more wisely.
I always say that, but then I'll still spend
time tweeting something that I'll pretend
others care about, and I'll reblog
that last photo on tumblr. The last one.
I swear.

But this year, I'll make sure to cherish every moment
and not worry too much about the future.
I will spend time on things I care about.

Because spending twelve hours watching football
in one weekend, might be a waste of time for some,
but every minute
is worth it to me.

And spending two hours making the perfect layout
for a new story I want to write,
might seem foolish to some,
but it's an expression of my soul.
Art and creativity melting,
with a multi-faceted jewel of an idea
waiting to scurry across the page,
chasing the cursor.

Because taking the time to read the entire
Bible through in a year,
or spending an evening with the fire
crackling at my back, sipping tea
and talking with my parents,
could be pathetic to some -

But if I spend every possible moment
immersed in what I love,
I will not waste away my time.
I will be living in every moment.

For this poem I wrote down some things I would do and some things I wouldn't do in this year, kind of like New Year's resolutions, and then I picked a few and wrote about them. Every year I have a "theme" instead of making specific resolutions, so for this year my theme is "Cherishing Every Moment" which is why it's the focus of this poem. :)
