Apology

Who are you?
You’re not the man I fell in love with.
I don’t know who you are,
You’re nothing like him.
He protected me,
Made me laugh.
You say you love me,
But then you turn right around
And accuse me of cheating on you.
You accuse me of using you.
He held the door for me,
Always held me close.
But you leave me behind,
You ignore me,
Want nothing to do with me.
You want nothing from me but an apology.
An apology for something I didn’t do.
I thought I loved you with all my heart.
I did love you.
But you’re not the same man anymore,
I don’t love this version of you.
And for that reason,
The only apology I’ll give you
Is that I’m sorry I was so easily fooled
And didn’t see the real you.
I’m sorry I didn’t see before
How little you trusted me,
And how paranoid you were,
So much so that whenever we argue,
You’re afraid I’m going to murder you in your sleep.
That’s the only apology I can give you,
Nothing more, nothing less.
