The Innocent Aren’t Safe

Hearts pound so feebly,
That not even the owners can feel them,
Or hear their dying cries.

Blood gurgles like a brook in their bodies,
Unaware of the poison that has entered them.
Unsuspecting they live their lives,
Ignorant and oblivious to the damage their bodies are taking.
Their hearts can’t keep up they begin to fail them.

Bam!
One goes sprawling on the ground, clutching their chest in agony.
Bam, Bam!
Another two have heart attacks.
Whoosh!
One falls as if the wind has knocked them over,
Their body struggling to keep from falling,
Arms pinwheeling in every direction.
It is inevitable though they fall hitting the pavement,
Crushing their skull.

Blood seeps out of their head,
Staining the side walk red.
Silence.

They are all dead.
When life becomes too hard,
Some people just break down.
In various ways.

Some people have heart trouble,
Others have trouble getting circulation through their bodies,
While some get dizzy for reasons unknown to them.
These were not the reasons for these people’s deaths, however.

They were experiments.
They drank concoctions that ultimately killed them.
They thought they were safe,
Being reassured that they would not be harmed in any way.

That’s the problem,
They were too trusting,
And in a world where the truth is limited,
Where gullible people do things, that others would frown upon,
Death surely follows.
