Glaedr's Lament

A beautiful thing,
A dragon and its rider.
Beautiful songs their hearts together sing,
In unison and harmony.

Minds merging together with passion and love.
Dreams mesh together like well woven clothes.
One with wings to take them up above,
The other with arms to cut down their foes.

Connected for years,
Their connection grows strong.
Not many tears,
Their souls have grown fond.

Although their hearts are chained with an iron grip,
Beating as one with no great cost,
Still the bond can be ripped,
When one or the other is lost.

Burning, searing pain.
The majestic, golden dragon feels it running through his heart.
It was not his leg again,
No, it was his other PART.

In agony he roars,
Pouring his energy into his dying friend.
Toward the ground he soars,
Every part of him screaming that it's the end.

Suddenly the connection snaps.
Every feeling of love and safety is destroyed.
Sorrow around his heart wraps,
As he feels his companion slip into the void.

He wails in lament with ferocity,
His eyes burn with the fires of revenge.
Even his wise mind could not grip this atrocity.
His life long friend and companion he would avenge.

With the powerful thrusts of his shimmering wings,
Like a streak he speeds to his red-dragon-foe.
Powerful jaws with teeth he will bring
Blood, sorrow, and woe.

Fangs sinking into the crimson creature of his kind.
His aim had reached its mark.
His immense wrath blurred his mind,
Then suddenly the golden dragon's life flickers out with a spark.

Everything is fuzzy and unclear,
The minds of dear friends he feels,
Here he cannot even shed a tear
The stinging reality makes his ancient mind reel.

He feels so isolated,
His heart has been cleaved in half.
His connection with his companion was terminated.
The evil-demon-man will not have the last laugh.

For he was now immortal.
Though not in physical form.
He is housed in his Heart of Hearts.
His Eldunari.

I love these books so so much and this part of Brisingr just broke my heart!! I was trying not to cry in class. Just the amount of emotion when Oromis died and Glaedr's feelings of loss and heartbreak was powerful. I love how much detail and emotion Paolini puts into his writing :) I'm jelly!
