The Night Bird

Stone cold silence settles in
Then the night bird cries its song
Telling tales of shattered souls
Mingling with the cry
Of a lonely heart so far away
That's been lost behind a shade
The bird sings out
For lost hope and love
Yearning for the break of dawn.

Hidden by the darkness
I listen to your cry
And every rise and fall forms
A new crevice in my heart
I want nothing more than to reach out
To touch your soul so cold
And maybe feel the spark
That means I yet have life
Coursing thought my veins.

While your emotions overload
And spill out as ruby waterfalls
Cascading down your wrists
I'm searching high and low
For an ounce of feeling in myself
I want to be the one
That stops the river flow
But this lack of feeling in my chest
Makes me fear that if we met
We'd light up like fireworks
Without near as pretty an end.

Still I go searching for you
Through this endless night
Searching for the light
That could take away your pain
And let me once again feel
Because I'd let myself fade
Into the darkness
Fall away
If it was really what you need
I could be your everything.

The lonely night bird remains
Yearning for the day
Ruffling his feathers
And sending up a plead
His wings fold out from under him
Catching the ever light breeze
His hopes and aspirations
Lift him up and away
Until he can start to fly
Soaring towards the breaking day.
