Near Forgotten

Everywhere I look another tape
Telling me to take caution.
To stop.
Think.
Realize where I am and get out
While I still can.
But the warnings I do not heed
As I admire the rolling mountains
And shallow vallies
Painted with memories
Of a life near forgotten.
A force unknown
Pulls me
And to what place I do not know
But still I follow and ignore
Every instinct that keeps me here.
Projects half built but forgotten
Jump at me for a second chance
To work towards a hopeless cause
Like the one that pulls me near.
A sky scraper without walls.
A temple without tapestries.
A home without a hearth.
Here the tape forms a barricade
So I break it open
Tear it down
And tumble into the black hole
Of desolation
That breaks and tears
Before anything stable can be built
Screams are ripped from my lungs
Eyes gone blind from all I see
In this oppressive darkness.
But no tears fall while here I sit.
Face blank.
Breathing steady.
Stuck in my mind.
Falling forever.
