Diamond Smiles

Standing on the stage
Lights are only on you
Every eye is fixed on you
Waiting, watching for a performance

And you just stand there
Mind totally out of the situation
Wondering why they stare at you
Why are you even up here?

The pressure to fit the role
Of the performer
Builds inside
Questions start floating in the air
As you just stand there

So you give them a diamond smile
Convincing to anyone
And you go about the way you usually do
Smiling in the spotlight
Lying in the spotlight

And they laugh and cry
While all you're allowed to do is smile
Your diamond smile
Even if it is only cubic zirconia
They won't know the difference
They never do
