lovesick

You broke her heart tonight,
And you don't realize it,
But it's been torn in two and
It just won't mend.

She got her hopes too high up,
Such a naïve little creature,
And when the world came crashing
Down around her,
Her life,
Her love was gone without a warning.

She doesn't believe you cared,
As if you did anyway,
Stringing her along
Your lovesick marionette.

You tell her you're sorry,
Apologies lost on the whispering wind,
She won't believe you,
No, my dear,
Not anymore.

She doesn't have a temper with you,
Though even when you're around
She shows others her feisty disposition.
You always said you loved to see her happy,
But it was the irony of your words,
You're the source of her misery.

So as you sleep,
Keep in mind that
She wouldn't have waited forever,
She could've had her pick, you know,
But she chose you.
Look where that got her.

Crying for hours on end,
Eyes puffy with an ache in her chest,
Wishing you could see your own cowardice,
Wishing you were hers.

Go back to your girlfriend,
Tell her you love her,
But don't you ever forget,
The other girl
She will be your biggest regret.

I haven't written poetry in a year, and this is from experience, so this is . . . raw. (And yes, he chose to stay friends with me. Hurts like a bitch and I have been crying for five hours now.) I don't want sympathies or apologies from him. All I want is just . . . him.

Most likely will rewrite within the next week.
