Weeping Willow

Weeping willow
Why so strong?
You’ve seen the ages, you’ve seen them all
Till your branches sagged
And your kingly stature lagged.
Through all of it your beauty remained
Ever brilliant, ever maimed.
Grey and brown, bark twists and melds
In ominous emotion
Stills and spells.
Thick dark rope of blistering quality
Tied in rings shaped as shining bells
Wraps around your stooping branches
A wooden plate, to the rope it latches
So the small child can swing in laughter.
Weeping willow
Why so strong?
You've seen the ages, you’ve seen them all.
