Die For Her

With every painful heartbeat
Your name pounds through my head
Like a whispered curse,
A lesson that cannot be learned.
A wildfire dancing in my mind
Where the coals burn
Deeper than what we can afford to save
Is our story worth saving
If you can only read the ending?
Assumption is the Devil’s song
Assuming you’d give it all up for me
Was just another lie that was someone else’s truth.
Telling me to wait at the door
Just to watch your games
Like a sick, sick, play
Where the lines are poisons dancing through the air
Every syllable, accent, and breath is mining away
Of what is left
Of me.
It’s torturous exposure to the world
When intertwined stories now just become
Lonesome poems
Of a fantasy
Of you and I.
