A Mess
You’re a mess
A jumble of fragments and fractures
Rough edges and learned lessons
The comings, the goings, the afters
You’re full of great expectations
Your own, and those imposed
Small failures and half successes
The epitome of mediocrity composed
Yet though you know you’re nothing special
There’s something singularly unique
About the way you hold your head
And the tone with which you speak
Coming from years of inexperience
And decades barely lived
Nights of heartbreaks and tears
And love so freely gived
You’ve stood through many a storm
Defiant to the trouble
But have bourne the damage within
And burdened yourself the double
You’re a mess, close to falling apart
Held together by nerve and sinew
I just wish to take a moment to say
You’re not alone, me too
A jumble of fragments and fractures
Rough edges and learned lessons
The comings, the goings, the afters
You’re full of great expectations
Your own, and those imposed
Small failures and half successes
The epitome of mediocrity composed
Yet though you know you’re nothing special
There’s something singularly unique
About the way you hold your head
And the tone with which you speak
Coming from years of inexperience
And decades barely lived
Nights of heartbreaks and tears
And love so freely gived
You’ve stood through many a storm
Defiant to the trouble
But have bourne the damage within
And burdened yourself the double
You’re a mess, close to falling apart
Held together by nerve and sinew
I just wish to take a moment to say
You’re not alone, me too
