Irony's Misery

Life is a big, cruel joke
played by life's comedian:
irony.

It's when the one that broke my heart
is the only one that can make the beating start,
after it's been broken, shattered, blown in half,
and yet...it still belongs to her.

It's when the ones you call your "friends"
hurt you beyond your ability to make amends...

It's when the lonely, battle-hardened veteran,
the one that's survived more than many better men,
all for his country, for his family, for his friends,
who all leave him alone, homeless, filthy, and thin.

It's when you give, give, and give,
because that's how your mother and Jesus told you to live,
and you get nothing back, except unappreciation,
time and time again you're hurt,
time and time again you forgive.

It's the honest man that falls in love,
a deep love, as pure as Noah's dove,
but the girl leaves him for a less honorable man
who abuses her, and she commits suicide,
knowing and having not a clue what love was capable of.

It's the fact that Jesus suffered six long hours in pain,
dying on the cross to free us from sin's chains,
and we forget Him, hate Him, and use His name in vain.

It's the little ghetto boy that was shot yesterday,
for no apparent reason, murder without a cause,
he was going to grow up and find a cure for cancer...
and now he's six feet under, due to the proletariat's laws.

It's a poem that's never read,
stories never told, words never said,
inspiration, emotions, art,
all gone down the drain...
