Sand and Apparitions

It’s these things I can’t remember
As I lie awake in bed
Whispers of a memory
Floating through my head
It’s those times I thought forgotten
Flown from my weary mind
As the chimes keep bellowing
Along with Father Time
It’s those moments lost forever
Like a fleeting lover’s embrace
I still feel the warmth
But I no longer see his face
It’s all those years spent waiting
For the dawn that never came
Leaving me so hopeless
And maybe a little insane
It’s those days that were really nights
And those nights that were really stars
The times that I spent dreaming
That I was where you are
I don’t know how to say this
I’m not even sure I can
For you’re only an apparition
And I’m but made of sand
But here it is, I’ll say it
So please hear me clear
Before the tide pulls me back
And you are no longer near
Let these words reverberate
Across the ocean waves
And utter not a sound
As your legs do cave
I’ve never been in love
As far as I know, it’s true
Yet my heart still beats
For the one and only you
So, my apparition,
Wherever you are
I hope you hear these words
From so very far
And will come rushing back
Right back to my arms
For if we’re together
None can do us harm
I’ll lie on this beach and wait
Until the dawn arrives
Hoping we can make it through
Safe with both our lives
