Definition: Love

Love and suffer come from the tougher. Those
who can take a punch and make kids’ lunch. Say
to neighbours they are fine, while having a fractured
spine. Hiding bruises with make-up is an art mastered
well by bleeding hearts. Hearts that love too much
and long for a soft touch. But only receive the hard
fist from the pissed. To take a beating right before
a prayer meeting. Nothing to pray for they say,
because they’ve been told to obey. Wanting to
scream out for aid, while at home being threatened
by a blade. Waiting for the right time to take the kids
and leave the slime. Running out of time to flee
before the killer bee takes chase. To take what he
thinks is his, and break the defiant.
