Mother Nature's Anguish

A crushing, heaving weight
Upon your mind and heart,
Still, silent humidity
On your pale skin.
Overhead it looms,
Staring with deep set eyes
That flicker with electricity.
It shifts and moves
Continually changing to fit
Within the horizon.
And then it begins.
One cold drop,
Breaking as it hits your
Trembling face.
Then another, plummeting
From on high before meeting
The ground.
Another. Still more.
They fall, and the
Darkness above
Rumbles as it loses its children.
It stretches out arms of
Blinding light to catch them
And you feel its heavy
Warm sigh of disappointment
Around your shoulders.
Still, they fall,
Tapping at the pavement,
Whispering secrets to each other,
Their feet pattering away
Like boy soldiers
Marching off to war.
