Calling

The phone rings its late morning and I look away
As it continues to ring I continue my shuffle towards the corner of the room
Eventually it'll pass don't fret I tell myself
And it does

The phone rings again but this time later in the day
As it continues to ring I glare at the combination of numbers and letters
I scowl
Eventually it'll pass don't fret I tell myself
And it does

The phone rings again but this time late at night
As it continues to ring I recognise the combination of letters and numbers
I shakily pick up the phone
I listen to the voice and the other end but I do not listen to the words there firing at me
Eventually it'll pass don't fret I tell myself
And I hang up
And it does

The opportunities came but it was so early in the morning
As the chances continued to come
And I proceeded to hastily recline
Eventually it'll pass don't fret I told myself
And I reclined again and again
And life passed
And eventually it hung up on me too
