The Scarlet Ibis

If you can take my shame,
Then I can take your pain.
I weaved this net for you,
I can be your hurricane.
My pride bears two seeds,
And I've chosen destruction.
Life may not put you through more than you can handle,
But I'll put you though more then you can take.
I'll let the rain fall between us,
You're my fallen scarlet ibis,
But I can feel your heart exploding in my hands,
But I can hear your voice in the back of my head.
The rain is a heretic to you and me,
And I can see it in your eyes.
Failure is my creation,
Pride is my destruction.
So, I'll take your limp body home,
And I'll sing you a bitter song.
Not even death will mar your beauty and grace.

I recently read the story the Scarlet Ibis. It's a tragically beautiful tale of how a brother's pride and shame kills his world. Doodle, being the brother's world, had a weak heart. If you read the story, you might understand a couple of the references in here. Look it up!
