I'll Play The Part

I believed being me was better,
My outlook set me apart.
I thought I stood out in the crowd,
That my will to be me made me worthwhile.
Individuality was admired.
Little did I know I drove you away.
Being me was being too much.
What I gave as care, you received as control.
When I was thoughtful, you took it as obsession.
My attempts to connect and reach out were evidence of neurosis.
Picking up the pieces further deepened my insanity to you.
I'm sorry my sincerity fell under suspicion.
I now join those in the crowd,
Follow to their destination.
I no longer act as individual,
only to be part of the crowd.
I can do it all for your benefit.
For you and all the world,
I'll play the part.
