Everyone's Hero

They fall and stain our hearts, tainting the spaces where safety and security were.
We sit with the tears trailing down our faces.
We see the speaker; words gently ease their way out of his mouth as he choked back emotion.

Our savior, everyone's hero.
He came out of the dark.
Our hero was moral.
our hero kindled the flame of our hope.
He had held the courage for all of us.
Our hero knew what really mattered, what was important.

Here our hero lies in an open casket.
He didn't ask for it, he didn't deserve it.
our hero lies peacefully, silent for eternity.
He has transcended from our world to the next.
I walk up to the podium, say my piece. My tribute. My Eulogy.

I place my rose in the coffin, giving him one last look.
I remember the times before him.
The depression, the distraught feeling.
Maybe he knew this would happen, maybe not.
The coffin is closed and lowered.
He is forever gone, yet his values are forever here.
