Fork in the Road

For the longest time, as far back as I can see,
Walking this path has just been you and me.
Others have come and go, but they’ve stayed temporarily.
On our way, we walk this road that is so familiar,
Yet it surprises us with new.
Though this road may twist and wind,
It remains safe knowing I walk with you.
On our way, we see many places.
The wonder and amazement is glowing in our faces.
As we stand, it becomes crisp and clear
How much we want time to stop right here.
We look ahead, our future appearing bright.
Coming ahead is our worst fear in sight.
The road divides splitting into two,
Fear runs across my face as I’m looking at you.
The pain sets in that we must part ways,
How we wish this was left to another day.
Before we depart on opposite sides,
You tell me that we should walk together through the divide.
So we did, through the middle we went.
I know now that our time was never better spent.
