Alone at Night

Give me something with which to sleep;
I'm all alone, you see.
For no companions do I keep
As nighttime company.

Alone with stars and stifling sky
To guide me through my dreams,
The loneliness has floated by,
Sunk through the bedsheets' seams.

Protectiveness of bleeding thoughts
And bleeding skin to boot,
The pillowcase has several blots—
My veins' unwilling fruit.

But all is silver in the night;
The moonlight floods my world,
And drowning in it, thoughts take flight.
My wings spread out, unfurled.
