'Friends'

Think of all the times we’ve had -
Blowing smoke into the eye of a louse
And we took photos on that camera
(The one with the flash – remember?)
But now it’s all in the past.
Good times gone are good times lost,
And I’ll raise a toast to my own sorry soul.
I’d much rather spend the day alone
Because
This birthday was our death day, you know.
Not that I’m lonely, or bitter, or cold –
Friendship’s not friendship if the efforts all yours.
One day, I’ll look back thinking
‘That summer was something…’
But for now, it’s me. I’m finished. I’m done.
Past times are that.
I hope your future’s better.
I hope you can find the friends that are worth all the effort.

Who, me?
I’ll be drinking alone from now till forever.
