I asked you to drop me off around the corner,
You pulled up in the front row.
I asked you to let me walk in on my own,
You never would let go.

I asked you to stay home from the trip,
The cool kids’ parent’s weren’t going.
I asked you to reconsider,
You signed the first permission slip.

I asked you to be my rock,
You were more like my anchor.
I asked you to help me see the light,
You brought the sun to my face.

I asked you to be in the front row,
You were jumping onto the stage.
I asked you to be a little quieter,
You were my biggest and loudest fan.

I asked you to remember to be happy,
You said you were leaving Daddy.
I asked you to remember my sister and I,
You said that you could never forget.

I asked you not to see this man,
You were blinded by a new love.
I asked you to hear me out,
You shut me out like the house you sold.

I asked you to choose my sister and me over him,
And you turned the cheek to run.
I asked you to be a mother,
Now it’s like you never existed.

I asked you to want me in your life.
