Bloodlust and Black Hearts

My stare stayed upon this evil man’s face
His eyes were gentle but I am no fool
They were my dungeon, those sanguine pools
Of the corpses there was no trace
Crimson once flooded the entire place!
My vision was of the vile King’s rule

He questioned me in a voice quite low
“Would you like to join me tonight for a meal?
I assume a bath first, how does that appeal?
To your new quarters I will soon show”
I nodded meekly, pleased although
I did not trust that his words would prove real

A tattered servant escorted me to dinner
I caught my reflection, almost at my best
Adorned in an elegant silken black dress
Blending entirely amongst all the sinners
Wicked regard, my nerves wearing thinner
At the head of the table sat the ultimate test

He beckoned me to sit, pouring a drink
“Taste the wine on your lips, sweet like a kiss”
Stained red with blood, a masochist
A tainted trick, I stopped to think
Once more this eve my heart did sink
Pitch black soul and mind a twist

Lord Sanguine drank, a smirk on his lips
“Come Miss Saline, join me in a dance,”
I followed again, he readied his stance
His hand in my hand, his hand on my hip
The warmth from his body made my heart skip
His eyes bore through mine and I was in a trance

My body responded though my mind did not
We danced, not as two but one whole
My body was no longer in my control
“Many a battle my empire has fought,
Thousands of years, it was you that I sought,
At last, I acquired the missing half of my soul.”

He lead me away, to a study he steered
Books to the ceiling, a philosophers bliss
He turned back to me and leaned in for a kiss
Stunned at first, away from him I veered
The angry look in his eyes I feared
“You cannot get away from me that easy, miss.”

Chilled by his words, I ran for the door
Into his path I knocked over a chair
A second too late, caught me by the hair
With a sickening thud he threw me to the floor
If I lived through the night, I knew I’d be sore
Run again or fight back I did not dare

“I’ll tell you this once, I won’t play this game,
You are mine now, you’ll do what you’re told.
A million slaves I have bought and sold.
Although you are not just another dame,
One way or another, I’ll show you shame.”
I fear to repeat what the night will hold
