As She Sleeps

I can never sleep
Knowing she is there
Right beyond my fetid grasp
My thoughts whirling in the air

She lays there in her mind
Calm at last to find
The quiet solace she desires
All within her mind

I look upon what is there
Laying by my side
Knowing that if I close my eyes
She will be gone and take flight

I only wish to hold her hand
For the shortest while
As she travels to her dreams
I hope she will finally smile

In my heart I must let go
This free bird of no return
For in the end the pain I feel
Will never end if I believe it's real.
