What You Told Me, Part One

An eternity spent in "maybe"
and the possibilities or "if."
We can contemplate our futures,
wait with bated breath.

But what I want deep inside
is to wrap you in my arms,
or crawl inside you and hide
figure out the secrets,
watch your walls crumble in a landslide

For you to speak in honest tones
not make promises you don't want.
Or only see when you try,
despite my best efforts,
it's so very easy to forget
I love you, goodnight

And I am content in your confessions
be they real or folk tale
Experience life's realities and pleasures
Return with open arms

It seems so easy,
we wait and tear apart our tapestries
when convenience sets the mood
When established ideals are present,
after the heat of summer, we return

Passersby, briefly catching the other's eye
My, you have changed
in your walk and your speech,
I wonder if you ever think of me
How we used to sit under trees
in your car, relaxing in the night,
Our scorching kisses setting fire to our thoughts

Then you're gone, a ghost
Lost among the seas of faces, identities
It doesn't mean a thing to them, you and me
And soon we become them too, forgetting
