Glacier's Edge

A split-second glance
At those stunning glacier peaks
That shone brilliantly in the sunlight
Had me entranced

In a mere moment's notice,
That unforgiving smirk
Revealed twenty-eight shimmering milky pearls--
All faceted--in the mouth of the prettiest oyster

A shiver rolled down my spine
As our stars connect and you waltz to me
Glaciers, sharp and treacherous, enticed me to stay
And bask in the limelight of your unearthly glow

I couldn't have gone even if I wanted to
One look over the glacier's edge
Had me retreating back to safety
Staring down the middle, where I felt I belonged

When you disappeared,
It was never for long
You always returned
Why, though, I never understood

I dreamt about our ambiguous esoteric infinity
Revelling in the promise of endless wonder
Absolving my stress inside of your chill
Spending our days in hypothermia's cradle

Til the day your glacier
Met a truck full of salt
And set my skin ablaze
As you left me to drown in the Arctic Ocean
