The Soldier's Plight

Blood and sweat had made me wet
But the fight wasn't over yet
Energy had drained out of me
I was broken, hand and knee
I knew that I still had to fight
All along this damp dark night

That is when I got it right
Ahead of me was the fight
Expected not it was, of course
To go fight alone like a horse
It was hard, really for me to do
Being a woman pale as dew

Out of every fighter, every soldier
I had been the only survivor
A miracle though I was,
but more than anything, was
a woman, standing alone
when all had given up hope

Stood I amid the bags of bones
Head high avoiding my heart's groans
Bruised and cut and lame
I still kept ablaze hope's flame
Until I dropped frozen on earth
And the enemy twirled his flag of mirth

Lying crushed in a pool of red
Like it was my eternal bed
Fallen in the arena, about to die
Looking longingly at the sky
Praying I was for mercy from God
To perish my soul like that of a pod

Still burning today is the flame
Earned by a great deal of pain
Keeping the hope alive till date
Helping all accept their fate
Keep the flame always cherished
Not show down what she accomplished
