Addiction to Computers

Eyes shut, she sighs. Tired of the rite,
She sorely gathers all her might.
She turns the knob and hesitates
Then nods her head in disgrace.

Her steps echo off the walls
And strain makes her eyelids fall.
And as they are opened swift,
To the darkness, her sight drifts.

To the corner she glances,
And covers her eyeglasses.
Sees she the screen’s light
Bright and fake, very bright.

Behind the screen sits her girl,
Skin gleaming like a pearl
Eyes staring at the screen
Brain enjoying another dream.

“How long more?” she asks.
But the girl has her ears masked.
She calls again, “How much longer?”
And the child clutches the mouse stronger.

And then the girl looks up,
Eyes red and nose drawn up;
She yells, “You made me lose!”
Her mother does she accuse.

A tear drops down the mother’s cheek
Not a word does she speak;
She turns her back, heads for the door
Hands in pocket once more.

It’s all right, she tells to herself
Some hope is there still left.
I’ll come here yet again
And tell her that, there’s much more to gain
And time’s not a game...
