You Know I'll Never Leave

i hope these eyes bore holes in you,
and put that quiver in your voice.
i hope that i have the power
to do that to you.

i'll make my lips purse in defiance
and i'll make sure my stare doesn't change.
long face, pouted lips, sharp eyes
and the way i'm flushing.

i'm going to lean back in my chair
and swing my arms at my side -
like a gorilla i can touch the floor
and pick up dust with my fingertips.

i'd tell you about the way your tie is messed up
but i don't think you want to know.
it's not like i can find my voice,
not like it even matters.

i've felt this way before, heartbeats.
and as i stand up to leave, i know
that you don't want me to go.
so i sit back down on the other side of the room.
