I'm Learning

I always thought myself a good student, a quick learner and adept at most things
but this
there was no way to prepare for
how could I know how your lips would feel just here
below my left ear
and by what calculations could I predict
the level of my shiver as you run your fingertips over my wrist
this informal classroom you call a bed
with pillows that hold a history
and springs that create a soundtrack
the lessons we learn together sometimes leave me
weightless as a feather
but then you ground me
the sound of our tandem breathing reminds me that this
connection we share is about more than just the physical, see
I take very careful notes, to remember every stroke
of your tongue against mine because this
sweet nectar that blooms in my throat from every kiss
leaves me reeling for days
and this feeling that springs from the simplest things
like the way you hold my gaze
feels like you shone a light on my soul and called it beautiful
even though you sometimes act professor
this welcome exchange of knowledge is
enlightening on so many levels and
delightfully unexpected
no, there was no way to study for this
and I certainly hope there's not an exam because
if I had to say that the way you trace my ribs with your tongue
compares to the swell of a cello playing a deep sweet melody well
I don't think there is a formula for that
but you're helping me
by learning through practice, and hands-on tactics, and hey, I can't help it
if I think communication is sexy
so I take very careful notes, to remember every stroke
of intellect that falls from your lips
because I love this
endless lesson we have going on the existential meaning of all things
and I want to kiss you every time you say something interesting
which sort of defeats the purpose of talking at all
so I just let myself fall
and I always
take very careful notes, to remember every stroke
of your hands under my shirt
as we fall together between your sheets
and I know you know this is still new to me
how a gentle touch feels like a heady weight and your kiss leaves my lips burning
so I take diligent notes to remember every stroke
because I'm comfortable with you
and you know
I'm still learning
