Birds

Beauty of that bright morning was strong,
The sun was shining and painting pictures in the sky,
Light was dancing on the water of the pond,
And birds were flying far above so high.
My steps lead the way,
Mind was heavy because of you;
How I was so fond!
The innocence is long gone.

My ears are hurt and able to hear;
There is missing something.
Senses are no longer filled with that fear.
What should I be afraid of when you aren't near?
That graceful song has changed it's tunes;
It now sings about innocent death.
But I could just laugh.
I am immune.
You cannot affect me anymore.

The touch of grey made my heart sink.
I couldn't imagine until I saw.
The time was gone: No time to think.
The water was too cold.
It hurt.
You never gave me what I desired:
A life and mind of my own.
I saw those wet, grey feathers.
I heard that song crying for help.
But I wasn't that strong.
And when I opened my eyes,
I saw those two helpless, dying creatures.
As I took the last steps in the water;
I saw two dead birds in the pond.
