Promise Unkept
How is it possible that you slept
Last night, knowing you left your promise unkept?
Oh friend of mine that I hold so dear,
Was the temptation so great because it was near?
Or, had you no intention at all to resist?
When that sin made its call, did you readily enlist?
Wait, let me calm down................................
Why is it so difficult to mask this frown?
I shouldn't judge you so harshly for this blunder,
Especially when half the blame resides on my shoulders.
My duty was to hold you to your word,
But on the sidelines I watched you disregard our accord.
When I understood what you were leaving to do,
I didn't say a word to stop you.
I did absolutely nothing to stop you.

My best friend and I had made a promise once at his house, but when the time came to actually put that promise to work. We both took the passive route. He did not resist and I did not stop him. I've been feeling horrible about it for months and only just now wrote out my feelings on the matter. I still haven't talked to him about it. I still haven't stopped him.
