Reflections

Fall apart to the reflection—
Physical or mental?
—and die within the after-effects.

I’m curious as to whether it is you,
or if it is simply just me,
(because normally
it is).

Something within a nothing:
a reflection with no soul.
Teary eyes—
blurry thoughts.
Drown in the light as you wonder at the stars
and how one thing could be so
perfect.

So much more perfect
than me.

Turn away from the reflection—
Physical or mental?
—and try not to cry.

Hold back the tears,
paste on a smile.
Avoid all the mirrors
until you can’t any more.

Break down.

Give it a minute,
maybe a little more.
Pointless reassurances:
“Maybe tomorrow will be better.”

Rinse and repeat.
