Wolf Solitaire

To stars this cry of mine reverberates
And shimmer shall their light as they respond
But they no longer shine and scintillate
In dimness I descend for they have gone
A night or two will bear a silver rose
And I will howl and hope for her to hear
But moon has wilted fast and tide now flows
Too late and I'm alone again in fear
A band of blood encircles stars around
Horizons; gloaming sheds a light on me
But as I lift my snout to make a sound
Away dawn fades and blinding sun will be
A wolf without a pack shall surely die
And misery will take me where I lie
