Under the Bridge

"Intentions be damned,
I did not intend to become the man I am.
There was a time that the crime of arrogance
Had me dance with death.
Before this had begun,
I was cruel, devious and carried a gun.
I was ragged and profane,
With nothing to my name but shame.
Then as ‘Luck, would have me find,
An old Mercury dime
Which I sold for cash.
I bought more of the same,
And traded my given name
To that of a lender of money.
Becoming shifty with slick backed hair
and well manicured nails.
Hand crafted shoes of Cordovan and lace
Shod in wealth,
Dapper as the head wearing the chapeau,
While he now lays dead as me,
Here in the street,
Still looking the gentleman
He was my brother who did not approve.
Now I am known as the Graves End Caine,
and Great is the land of 'Shu."
