Ode to a Vegas Boy

Out in the wide open air
Where no one can hear
The softly barking animal approaches
At full speed, down to poach
The game is good, full of meat
We are hungry and cook the game to eat

Small though it was, it had spirit-hard to cage
Nice and thick and lean, its intelligence hard to gage
We have finished our meal, and claim Morpheus
He is content to grant our reprieve
The moon stretches taut, its light calmly deceiving, tortuous
The moon has set on a site of bright orange, it's taken its leave

Small though the price was to pay
It is done, I can not change history
Our trek back to civilization is long and tiring
Our blood stained with freedom, is disappearing
Steady, steady, we collapse against cool brick
Our head lifts to find a firm leg, with a firm kick

We won't back out, not here
This place is dangerous, our place is near
Just beyond the vale, through the forest
We shall find that place and rest, rest
Soon it will be over, a small bark is out
The eyes shift, rolling back, the limbs at an impossible angle
Our body is twisted at an intricate tangle
Never mind, I can not go there
