The Night-Time Road to Nowhere

A silver ribbon twists and twirls through the lilac sunset.
Like a vortex, it is endless yet we know exactly where it goes.
Either side is the tundra, flat and deserted and bitterly cold.
All is empty. All is silent.
Yet through the enveloping layers of the ongoing night,
there is the calming, equal beat of a horses hooves.
The sound bounces off the dark, ebony sand, like an audience clapping.
It is here that he will arrive; fast, angry and tormented in a moment of calm and tranquillity.
Blink and you'll miss him. Eyes wide and he'll never leave.
The shadow stretches and shrinks. And in a second he is gone.
Although the night is dark and infinite,
A sense of warmth will always welcome you, like your grandmothers home.
The night-time road to nowhere.
You'll be here forever, not long at all.
