Bye Bi Darby Trilogy (pt. 1)

Darby, do you remember in the eighth grade
When we were playing truth or dare on my bed?
You said if you loved a girl, it would be me,
But you dated a boy instead.

I want you to know, that you were priceless to me.
The most expensive gift I have given is on your feet.
And when you were down and no one cared,
I gave you my first paycheck, small but sweet.

Four years ago, you read my diary
And laughed because you were on every page.
You were too naïve to put the pieces together
And I was too mature for my age.

At least it was not the photo album
Where I stuck your sticker from the sixth grade.
You were running for class senator
And on the last page, that memory has stayed.

I would do anything to relive those hours,
Playing guitar till our fingers froze.
Then we laid in your bed and you read to me
Till the ominous sun arose.

Where did the time go, Darby?
High school came and now it is gone.
We were supposed to be friends forever.
But I am barely holding on.
