Strawberry Jam

Look at the world around you
Is it getting clear?
They’re all out to get you
You’d better…disappear…!

Everybody’s eyes on the TV screen
Selling cars, girls, money and controlling your dreams
Well it’s time to step back, get your gravity straight
Or they’ll reel you right in with the radio bait, yeah!

Glued to the tube, hands tied right ‘round your back
Airwaves reaching out, moving in for attack
Colors, static, fuzz, it’s a heartattack
You’re moving through the glass, then it all goes black!

Hey, yeah! You’re mesmerized
Dying’s just a matter of time
Tell all your friends, wipe the blood from your eyes
‘Cause baby, you’re hypnotized, yeah!

Hey, yeah! We’re energized
Crying, ‘cause all we’re fed are lies
Tell all your friends, eyes on the prize
‘Cause baby, you’re hypnotized, yeah!

You’re lookin’ over your shoulder
You’re catchin’ on to their ways
You better catch on quicker
It’s only a matter of days!

Gotta get your fix, even if it’s a kill
Can’t find the remote, it’s all crushing your will
Well it’s time to step back, get your gravity straight
‘Cause it’s getting to the point where it might be too late, yeah!

Eyes going dry, feet numb and cut off
Static pulling at your hair, all you can do is cough
Color bars, antennas turn your head too soft
You’re making waves in the world, turn your TV off!

Up all night, and then you sleep all day
But you can’t find a way to make the pain okay
So you sit and you drool and can’t imagine all the consequences
And later on you can’t fathom why all your defenses are broken

Hey, yeah! You’re mesmerized
Dying’s just a matter of time
Tell all your friends, wipe the blood from your eyes
‘Cause baby, you’re hypnotized, yeah!

Hey, yeah! We’re energized
Crying, ‘cause all we’re fed are lies
Tell all your friends, eyes on the prize
‘Cause baby, you’re hypnotized, yeah!

This was written for Put'emup, Put'emup, a fictional band for my story "Generation Why Bother." The message is really obvious but whatevs. They're described as a pop-punk band within the story, but when I hear this song in my head, it's so The Hives and I can't fathom why.
