Stronger

Looking at her, doubled over with tears
I can't begin to comprehend what she's going through
He's the fifth brother she's buried, and after all that
It's a wonder she finds the strength to do what she has to.

I would've broken down, I would've given up
It's hard to find faith in the face of such despair
Some people are dealt a lot that's near impossible to bear
And the old saying holds true,
Life just isn't fair.

But tragedies like these open our eyes to simple truths
And reveal to us others' own inner strength
It makes me wonder, how we could've been so blind
To what her quiet determination really meant.

Life is a lesson, and death a cruel teacher
It teaches us things we wish we didn't have to learn
But after these crash-courses on how to live on after death
Life's mysteries are no longer quite so hard to discern.

So we shouldn't look at death, and wish the person had lived longer,
Because one thing I've observed is that death makes people stronger.
