Shadows

As the sun swept over the curve
Of the fading horizon
Her intricate shadow swept out from under her.
A black curtain, dancing across pavement
A lavish masterpiece touring the coast
The rocks gave it freckles,
The animals - tattoos
The ground beneath her decorated
Her Shadow.

And with its rebirth the sun breathed life
Into all of the damned souls.
Footprints pounding,
Watches ticking,
Lips kissing,
Fingers dancing,
Hearts beating.
All of their shadows roamed as one,
Breathed as one,
Lived as one
Except for
Her Shadow.

An imperfect smile too generous to discard
A fragile frame too delicate to claim.
A lack of light too weak to set ablaze
A broken soul to mangled to love.
Eyes the color of swampland,
Legs need a steps tool.
Cheeks burning complacently.
All of these things she hated,
All of these things she contemplated,
You would never know it.
Not by
Her Shadow.

The way she warmed up when reading exquisite literature.
How she secretly loved the depth to her eyes.
Her infectious laugh, more viscous than honey.
Her encompassing heart, four times too big.
All of these things people yearn to follow,
You would never guess it.
Not by

Her Shadow.
