A Hole In The Sky

She walked home,
Lonely and afraid,
Her feet sloshing through wet grass and
Misery.
Her mind filled with insults and pain
And her eyes filled with tears.
Yet she stood strong.
Today was the day it would end.
Today was the day she would make it right.
She sat alone in the bathroom,
Taking some final deep breaths,
She tried to calm the pounding of her heart.
The sky was a cold blue,
Listless clouds floating through the April afternoon.
And the knife flashed silver,
And the birds sang unwittingly outside,
And red spilled from her neck,
And a hole opened up in her sky.
