Sunshine in Storms

Around our home’s sky
a storm races towards its destination,
somber, and tranquilly menacing

I had been searching for you,
and was rushing to find sunshine
instead of darkness

When I found you: A loud clap,
a blinding flash, as glaring
as headlights

I didn’t dare hesitate,
but you were clutching me
as swift as the lightning..

I glanced up:
you were trembling, startled,
a frightened puppy

But despite your stifling fear,
I saw the brightness
from within you

While we were there
you illuminated us
and warmed up my soul

Where, blinded,
I see no storm outside,
only your sunshine.
