We Are Who We Are

Sometimes in life,
When the wind blows the hardest
And the waves are the highest,
We find ourselves out in open water.
Hoping and praying that a boat
Passes to save us only to realize we
must save ourselves.
We kick for a while, maybe go under
to cool down and then we float.
We wait, and we pray.
We pray that nothing attacks us and
that sister moon guides the tide that
will deliver us back to shore.
We survive on adrenalin and strength, both mental and physical.
"I am strong" we tell ourselves.
And slowly we discover there are
others floating around us, we are not
alone.
Our blinders of selfishness have
sunken to the ocean floor.
Only then do we realize that
individually our struggles are almost
unbearable
But together we can signal a
helicopter from the air by joining
hand and
Creating an SOS signal.
We bond through struggles
We become stronger
We grow
And we move forward with life.
Moon phases pass and sister moon
smiles down on us when we
relinquish our grip on survival and
fall in to her gravitational pull like the
others.
We guide each other to dry ground
Each one of us an angel to another
among us.
We are who we are.
