Neverland

I don't want to talk right now.
Like Peter Pan and Wendy,
we thought we'd be just fine.
Fighting pirates, leading Lost Boys,
I thought you’d be forever mine.

While we swam with the mermaids,
we fell sick for each other.
But damned were we with the cure.
You never wanted to grow up,
yet, I never was quite sure.

We were both young and just forgot
That growing up is half the fun.
You never quite saw it that way.
I can still hear past the croc’s tick-tock,
all the things you said to make me stay.

“Please, come and fly away with me.”
Damning us to purgatory,
the “no” burns the tip of my tongue
and a world of fire brews within me.
I still feel the heat burning my lungs.

I followed all the island signs,
I thought they'd wind right back to you.
Now our love's lost among the sand;
mixed in with Lost Boys and their cries.
Oh, the tragic fate of Neverland.
